Palak Paneer


Palak paneer is a vegetarian dish consisting of paneer cubes in a thick paste made from pureed spinach. It is seasoned with ginger, garlic and few other Indian spices. This is one of the most popular paneer dishes in India. Best served with Tandoori roti/Kulcha/Phulka.

INGREDIENTS
  • Finely chopped spinach(palak) leaves - 200gm
  • Paneer - 150gm
  • Butter - 1tsp
  • Oil - 1tsp
  • Diced green chillies - 2-3nos
  • Spices(Cumin seeds, cinnamon , cloves, cardamom)
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1tsp
  • Chopped onion - 1nos
  • Chopped tomatoes - 1.5 nos
  • Kasuri methi(optional)
  • Fresh cream - 3 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
  • Heat 1tsp of oil and 1tsp of butter in a pan on  medium heat
  • Once the oil is hot, add the chillies and spinach. Saute for a min or 2(very light, it shouldn't become mushy)
  • Let the mixture cool down a bit and then transfer it to a blender. Grind the mixture into a fine paste. (It’s important to let it cool down else it will all blow up from the mixer)
  • To the same pan add 1tsp of oil in medium heat. Add some cumin seeds, 2 cloves, 2 cardamom and a small stick of cinnamon. Saute until they start crackling
  • Now add the ginger garlic paste and chopped onions. Saute until the raw smell of ginger garlic paste is gone
  • Then add the tomatoes and saute for a while until they become mushy. Add 1/2 tsp of garam masala. Mix it well. Now add some water(1/4 cup) and cook it for about 2 mins
  • Add the spinach paste into this. Add the paneer cubes. Mix it well and cook for 3-4 mins
  • Finally, add the kasuri methi and fresh cream on top
